The Trump administration has directed that Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program shall no longer cover sex-change procedures performed on minors. Scripture and the undivided Church have consistently taught that the body is not an indifferent vessel but a creation ordered toward its Creator. The fifth commandment and the apostolic injunctions concerning the care of children bind parents and rulers alike to protect the integrity of the young rather than to deliver them to experimental alteration.
By withdrawing public funds the administration has reaffirmed that civil authority exists to restrain evil, not to underwrite it. The act returns a measure of sovereignty to households and to the historic Christian understanding that authority in the home precedes and limits the claims of the therapeutic state.
The reversal exposes the prior policy as a departure from both natural law and the accumulated wisdom of Christendom, a departure that treated the rising generation as experimental subjects in a project of social reconstruction.
The faithful remnant must now demand that every agency and every court cease its cooperation with the same project. They must refuse consent to any future restoration of these payments and must labor to place legal barriers around the entire apparatus of child sterilization.
Only when the practice itself is placed beyond the reach of public or private power will the household again stand secure against the dispossessors who would claim its children.
