Where’s today’s Robin Hood?

Today’s liberalism has a fundamental misunderstanding or ignorance of the story of Robin Hood.  Or was the author of that story a fool when it came to understanding economics?

Either way, liberalism views the story of Robin Hood as a class struggle between the rich and the poor, and a call for a redistribution of wealth.  In reality, it is a struggle between the ruling elites in the government and the common man.  It is a story of the elites of Nottingham taking the property of the people’s wealth in the form of tax collection and lining their own pockets.

Robin Hood was an outlaw in the eyes of the elites of Nottingham because he was breaking the excessive, ungodly laws and government theft of wealth they were imposing on the people.  What he was actually doing was recognizing the people’s property rights to keep their own earnings and wealth.

This ignorance that liberalism has with economics is very damaging to the ideas of hard work and personal responsibility.  In a modern-day liberal economy, it is commanded and manipulated in an involuntary exchange of goods, services, and ideas based on what is appropriately defined by the central planners.  They incorrectly define competition as something in the public domain and defined by “society,” the community, which is controlled by a central governing authority.

Secular conservatism hears marketplace and competition, so they automatically assume this talk of the public domain is liberalism finally seeing the light.  In reality, secular conservatism is accepting the allure of competition from liberalism.  They are allowing liberalism to create a public domain-based command economy where goods, services, ideas, and wages are determined by the ruling class.

What defines free markets is not capitalism or competition.  Free markets are defined by the protection of individual liberty and property rights.  It is the free and voluntary exchange of goods, services, or ideas.  Anybody who doesn’t admit the joint problem of capitalism and socialism to free markets and free people deserves the communism of liberalism.

Christianity built Western civilization not because of the whiteness of Europe, but because of the moral truths and liberty of the Gospel and the whole counsel of Scripture.  Western culture, biblically defined, is a superior culture to Eastern civilization because Christianity is superior to the false Eastern religions.  Western civilization was built on the liberty and justice of the biblical common law system, recognition of individual rights, and the protection of individual property.

This is why modern liberalism is fundamentally opposed to Christianity and free markets.  It is also why all our talks of tax reform are missing the biblical and constitutional point of taxation.  It isn’t about jobs, growth, or fairness for the middle class.  It is fundamentally about the philosophy and size of government, and how best to fund only those functions the people have delineated and defined.

My trade is the creation of ideas.  I entered into this voluntary exchange through The Truth Dispatch.  It is my craft to create and publish cultural and theological content on human events, politics, and culture.  There are definitely times when my trade gets me into trouble and I commit a series of thought crimes, as defined by the totalitolerance brigade, but it is a craft that is voluntarily worth compensation.  And the elites of Nottingham need something to steal from me in the form of taxation.

I have chosen the path of a free and voluntary exchange because I still live in the freest country in the world, and Christianity hasn’t been criminalize.  Yet.  And I chose this path because I believe my contribution to a truly Christian and classically liberal society is ultimately about Christ’s Kingdom, not my livelihood.  Nevertheless, the creation of ideas and cultural essays with a solid public theology are worthy of compensation and I do have to live until Jesus returns.

I am asking you to join me on this journey of cultural reformation and proclamation of Christ’s Kingdom.  With your help, my cultural and theological content can give you and others a voice against a growing socialist and humanist totalitolerance brigade.  Moreover, The Truth Dispatch will play a vital role in the elimination and abolition of debt slavery and government theft of property through the gradual preaching of the whole Gospel.
